When there is a shift in your acid alkaline balance, body and mind can both be affected. This article will briefly describe some of the problems that can be caused an overly acidifying diet.

How Overacidity Affects the Body

Acidity can affect the body in numerous ways, and this article will only explore a few of these. The easiest effect to understand is the link between excess acid and bone loss. Although it may seem perverse that the body dismantles bone in response to excess acid, this behavior is actually an intelligent survival mechanism.

Although bone health is important, it is not as urgent a problem as overacidity. Therefore, your body draws minerals from your bones in order to neutralize the excess acid. In the best-case scenario, you will return to an alkaline pattern of eating, giving your body plenty of time to replace the bone that has been lost. Unfortunately, most of us in Western societies never follow an alkaline diet. The result is a steady loss of bone, which can eventually lead to osteoporosis and bone fractures.

Some of the negative effects of acidity are caused by deficiencies of alkalizing minerals. Other effects occur when the body is no longer capable of keeping up with the amount of acid in your system, and the acid accumulates in your bodily fluids and tissues. For example, when the mouth becomes too acidic, the resulting bacterial imbalance can lead to an increased risk of cavities and gum disease.

How Overacidity Affects the Mind

There are several ways that mental function can be affected by excessive acid production. First, the brain’s energy reserves can become depleted, causing a reduction in mental capacity.

Second, an overly acidic pH can cause the overproduction of cortisol. This can lead not only to an increased risk of stroke and heart attack, but can also make you more vulnerable to depression and anxiety.

Finally, overacidity can cause mild hypothyroidism, leading in turn to depression, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, among other symptoms.

Restoring Acid Alkaline Balance

Many factors can affect your body’s acid alkaline balance, including the altitude at which you live, your exposure to air pollution, and even your emotional state. In the majority of cases, however, chronic low-grade metabolic acidosis is the result of less-than-ideal dietary choices.

Accordingly, the best solution is to emphasize alkalizing foods in your diet. This does not mean that you need to give up acid-forming foods altogether. On the contrary, a diet consisting of only alkaline-forming foods would be imbalanced and unhealthy.

Instead, your goal should be to change your diet so that 65 to 80 percent of the foods are alkalizing. The remaining 20 to 35 percent should consist of nutrient-dense acid forming foods, such as beans and legumes, figs, prunes, carrots, and spinach.

Changing your diet may take a little work, but the results are well worth it. The alkaline diet is delicious and satisfying. It’s also one of the secrets of lifelong health.

The acid alkaline balance diet is also known as the acid alkaline diet, or simply the alkaline diet. Whatever you call it, it’s one of the most promising nutritional approaches for losing weight, boosting energy, and resolving many common health problems.

The theory behind the acid alkaline balance diet starts with the fact that and the healthy human body exists in a slightly alkaline state. For example, blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH level ranging from 7.35 to 7.45. Normal pH for other body fluids varies, but on the whole human body is just a bit on the alkaline side of the spectrum, like the oceans in which our ancestors evolved.

While many factors affect our internal pH, the most important is the food we eat. Not all foods create acid or alkaline compounds once they have been eaten and digested. If the body had no mechanism for maintaining acid alkaline balance, acids would accumulate, quickly leading to severe illness, and eventually death.

The good news is that our body does have several mechanisms for neutralizing assets and eliminating them from the body. The bad news is that the most important of these mechanisms function by combining acids with alkaline minerals, including calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

These acid detoxification systems prevent acid from reaching a fatal concentration. But they do so at the expense of long-term mineral depletion. When people eat foods that generate a lot of acid, but do not contain adequate amounts of alkalizing minerals, the end result is illness. This happens for two reasons: First, because the process of detoxifying acids leaves the body depleted of alkalizing minerals which perform many important functions. Secondly, because the amount of acid often overwhelms the body’s ability to detoxify it, creating a state of chronic low-grade metabolic acidosis.

The Benefits of the Acid Alkaline Balance Diet

The accumulation of acid in the body can lead to a variety of problems, including excess mucus, nasal congestion, and a lowered immune system that leaves the body vulnerable to infection.

One of the most common benefits of the acid alkaline balance diet is increased energy. The body’s cellular machinery functions best within a very narrow pH range. In particular, the mitochondria, which are responsible for energy production, are negatively affected when the body is too acidic.

Of course, weight loss is the number one benefit that most people want from a diet. The acid alkaline balance diet may well be the most effective diet for weight loss, since it emphasizes non-fattening foods. The key to sustainable weight loss is to eat foods that are low in caloric density, such as eggplant and grapefruit, both of which contain fewer than 15 calories per ounce. These types of foods are filling, but they don’t add many calories to your daily intake.

Not all alkalizing foods are low in calories, but it is remarkable how closely a list of alkaline foods mirrors a list of low-calorie foods. The alkaline diet minimizes many fattening foods, including meat, dairy, and sweets, which also happen to be acidifying.

Meanwhile, the foods emphasized on the alkaline diet are fruits and vegetables and certain whole grains, along with moderate amounts of beans, nuts, and seeds. Meat and dairy products can either be eliminated entirely or consumed in moderation. As it happens, this is also an excellent description of a diet for sustainable weight loss.

In conclusion, the acid alkaline balance diet is an excellent approach to increased energy, sustainable weight loss, and overall health.
